DEATH STEALS ANOTHER BLACK MALE WHILE WE WATCH

I'm tired. I'm frustrated with my own life and frankly I'm just damned tired of being a black woman. I feel like if I was at least a white woman I would be engaged by now, I certainly would be able to pull a football/basketball player but I digress.

I used to live in Inglewood California yes home to what used to be called the great western forum until they built the staple center now the forum is a giant relic that just sits there struggling to still be apart of a city that is a some what quiet urban nest inside of a bigger urban nest. Back to my point I used to live in Inglewood and before we moved to the burbs I was privy to the type of shit that makes up the lives of inner city youth.

Gangs, jacking, death. Now anyone that has dwelt in an urban city knows that death is a constant companion death doesn't sleep. I have seen bodies laid out under sheets blowing in the breeze waiting for the corner to come collect it. I have walked on many a sidewalk washed in somebodies blood, I was even privy to a jacking on the back of a bus and let me not have worn the wrong color to school like say red a whole red outfit... could cause major conflict.

Since I have been out of high school it seems to have gotten worst I don't understand the need to be so bloodthirsty we don't need help killing ourselves we got that down to a fine art it's sad and it makes me tired and damned glad that today I don't have any kids. Self hatred plays out through the younger generations they don't see nothing wrong with taking the life of a peer because they don't see their self worth.

The best lie ever told is the one that is told so much it becomes fact. It is a fact that black is minority, it is a fact that we as humans are so undervalued that we don't value ourselves which allow us to do the most ugliest things within our own culture. Fact we are so undervalued that even the government which has had laws on the books separating the races valued one color over the other ingraining doubt about self which turned into a fact that got passed down as legacy, fact we were brought here from Africa and stripped of all of our cultural heritage family ties were severed in order to break apart any type of familial ties that had occurred and would occur. Fact this familial break down has now become a legacy a generational curse that is passed down through generations so much so that is now a reality! We as a people don't value ourselves, we as a people don't pass down what it is we need to combat the hatefulness and spitefulness of the majority rule.

Before you lay your head down tonight talk to your children, make it a nightly ritual reaffirm that they are somebody that they don't have to act like trash and hurt one another. Tell your children where they can from not just from watts, compton, the southside, or new orleans. Allow your child to see that there is a bigger picture and we helped make that picture even though our efforts are ignored, or stolen. Give your children something bigger than hip-hop, hanna montana, and disney, give them truth and a knowledge of self. Impart in them a love of their culture and heritage allow them to step outside of the cocoon of ugliness that is the legacy of this country. Allow them to have more than being common street thugs allow them more than untimely death allow them more than what Derrion Albert got.

THE FIRE THIS TIME...BLACK LIFE IS EXPANDABLE

Comments

Take a good look at the face of a black teenager that has physical evidence of hatred sheared into his very person by fire! If that's not enough the powers that be added a trumped up charge to make him look like a criminal so the white teens that did this shit can say, oh he hit my cousin earlier on another day so that's why I set his ass on fire. Is this an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth? I see what y'all trying to do and I think its pure bullshit! It stinks to high heaven and I hope all the boys that were involved in setting this teen on fire end up with due justice in this world and in the hereafter!

I wonder where can one go with melanin in their skin and have their life valued? Is there such a place on this earth? Its like you're either invisible or discounted because you're the wrong color and when they do pay attention to you its always negative attention. I know that black people are the most forgiving people on this earth that's why we continue to get shit on as a people. Its sad because we don't demand respect and the whole world sees us as expandable. Black life doesn't amount to the same as a white life, and the liberal we are the world hand holders who don't see that are just as blind as justice in this country!!!! Unless you have lived as a full fledged black person you can't tell me shit! This tirade is brought you to you courtesy of this news story:

Teen Set Afire Now Charged for Earlier Fight

Date: Wednesday, July 15, 2009, 5:23 am
By: Denise Stewart, BlackAmericaWeb.com

Short Description

A Missouri teen who was doused with gasoline and set afire June 13 by two white schoolmates now faces charges himself for a fight he allegedly had with them.

Description

A black Missouri teen, who last month was doused with gasoline and set afire by two white schoolmates, now faces charges himself as he recovers from burns over most of his body.

Walter Currie Jr., a 15-year-old in Poplar Bluff, Mo., was burned on June 13 after an exchange with two teens with whom he reportedly had a previous altercation.

The youth who allegedly doused him with the gasoline and lit the fuel has been charged with assault as a juvenile, Currie’s parents said.

On July 6, several weeks after the incident, authorities gave Currie and his parents notice that he is being charged in connection with another incident where a teen related to the youth who set him afire was hit in the face, said Winonia Currie, Walter’s mother.

“All of a sudden, they decided to charge him with something that happened on June 10, but Walter said he didn’t have anything to do with it,” she said.

Because all of the people involved are juveniles, court officials in Butler County, Missouri said they can give only limited details on the incidents and cannot discuss names.

“I can tell you that there are charges against everyone involved,” Lesi Smith, chief juvenile officer for Butler County, told BlackAmericaWeb.com.

The suspects have not been revealed publicly and could not be reached for this story.

Walter Jr. said the teen who burned him told him he had gasoline and a lighter, and then began to spray him with the fuel before striking the lighter. Walter Jr. ran and jumped on a car, rolling on it to try to stop the burning. He even shed some of his clothing.

Initially, the youth suspected of burning Walter Jr. was arrested and was being held in a juvenile detention facility. He has since been released, according to sources familiar with the case.

The Curries say they want to see justice for their son. They want the 16-year-old to face stiff penalties.

“I want him to serve some time,” Walter Currie Sr. told BlackAmericaWeb.com.

Winonia Currie said her son is scheduled for a hearing on Aug. 5 at 1 p.m. and the teen that set her son afire is scheduled on the same day, in the same courtroom, at 2:30 p.m.

The Curries say they have only lived a couple of years in Poplar Bluff, a town about 125 miles south of St. Louis, Mo.

“It’s like a country city,” Winonia Currie said.

Though the family has received words of encouragement from black and white residents, Mrs. Currie said she questions whether everyone will get just treatment.

“The prosecutors have told us they will do everything they can to try him as an adult, but we’re getting very little information,” she said.

The charges for Walter Jr. bring additional hardships for the family.

“We’ve had all these medical bills. The insurance will only cover so much. We have to take him back and forth to the hospital in St Louis,” she said. “Now we have to try to find a lawyer. That’s more money.”

Doctors have told the Curries that it may be two years before their son’s burns are completely healed. He suffered burns on much of his body, including his face, chest, neck and arms.

“The physical wounds are healing, but we still have to deal with the mental stability,” Mrs. Currie said.

The incident has taken a devastating toll on the Walter Jr. and the family, said Tierra Shaffer, Walter’s older sister via email. “He has nightmares of being burned alive,” she said.

AMERICAN VIOLET GO SEE IT

Comments

There is no doubt in my mind that there is a war that is raged in the streets everyday. You can call it whatever you like the principles never change. It's the government vs. the common man, its the police vs. the common man, in 95% of these cases the war is being waged against the poor. When you are poor you are basically seen as cattle, something that can be branded, corralled, herded up, sold off, taken to the meat packing district and slathered to be packaged and sold. Your destiny is not your own when you are a cow you will become steak or hamburger. When you have no power the world glories in pounding that into your head day in and day out. I can see why folks who feel hopeless turn to living outside the law. When the world is determined to stomp you down and grind you into dust why even give a shit about the world and the people in it... Many will say that is victim mentally.

They will say well you had choices, if no one ever shows you or tells you about your "choices" how will you know you have any? IF all you ever see is dealing drugs, violence, sex, poverty, etc. and no one ever shows you anything else but the underbelly of life wouldn't your conclusion be that that is how life is. Wouldn't you then simply go along with what you know? Perception is reality if you perceive life to be this hard struggle with no bright side then it shall be as such. It is very hard to escape the vicious cycle of poverty.

I digress I am going off on a tangent when my specific purpose was to tell you to get out and go see the movie AMERICAN VIOLET it is based on a series of true events that actually happened to a single mother of four down in a rural impoverished section of Texas. Where the good ole boys still glory in having guns, all the power, and railroading poor black folks. She the woman the movie is based upon Regina Kelly was not a drug dealer, she had never sold drugs, the only thing she was guilty of was being poor, black, a single mother, and living in the projects, the projects is another way of saying holding pen for cattle, cattle would be poor minorities!

The tone of this movie is unbelievable just watching the trailer and reading the real victims website fired my blood up. Of course this film is a limited release film. You have to search it out in your cities but it is well worth searching for. No one fights for black people we don't even advocate for ourselves. We even automatically assume when we see someone pulled over for something and it is a person of color we assume that they automatically did whatever they are accused of doing no questions asked. I know for myself I always hold my breath when I drive by someone that has gotten pulled over and I don't let out that breath until I see that it isn't a person of color. I seem to breathe a bit easier when the skin of the person pulled over is not black, I'm sure its written into my DNA to act that way. Sadly in this country often times then not you are guilty before proven innocent, and even then if the peoples court of opinion says you did it then you are forever branded as a criminal in the minds of the general public. I digress again this is what it is folks this country is ass backwards still and just because Obama is in office it does not mean you can shirk your duties as a citizen of humanity.

My sentiment is charity starts at home I can't care deeply about anyone else's problems when the problems around me are deep and varied. I can't advocate to change a third world country when I live in the united states and the poor and disenfranchised is being railroaded every other day. I can't fix something I don't see every day on another continent, when there is a war on black people right here in Amerikkka. Call me what you want, but I speak the truth. Everyday there is a different minority getting sentenced and locked up in jail, being branded a felon over bullshit. Having their future and rights stripped away, having their livelihood forever challenged because no wants to hire a felon once they get out. Some states don't let felons vote, apply for school loans, get medicare or medicaid, if you set the rules of the game so that everyone who gambles and plays it loses and loses big whats the incentive to even invest in a country that eats its natives?

I get so fired up about about this kind of stuff if it didn't take massive amounts of school loans to go to law school I might have been a lawyer, at the very least an advocate for justice but I do what I can from my little soapbox a tiny voice being drowned out by the surrounding noise. Anyway Go see the movie, its worth your while trust me.

AMERICAN VIOLET
REGINA KELLY the woman the movie is based on check out her page, take a look at her face and the faces of her children breath in her circumstances and dare to tell me you aren't fired up, and fed up? If this one lone black single mother can fight for herself against injustices heaped upon her by the unjust system then why can't YOU at least take your ass to see the movie? What else you doing this weekend????? Read more...

I BEEN IN A RECESSION Y'ALL JUST CATCHING UP

Comments

Art work found here

I know that I have posted this before but Its too brilliant not to re-post again, and since I am the only one who reads this blog it matters not if I post it again.

Dear Uncle Sam:

Hi, it's me the one you know as ***-**-****. I have worked in your system since I was the ripe age of 19 officially. I have had jobs that paid a wage that wouldn't even keep a well fed pooch alive let alone a person with financial responsibilities. You see Uncle Sam I have tried my hardest to do right, work, be a responsible citizen and pledge my allegiance to my country even when I think you're wrong I still would just shrug and chop it up to America being America. I thought we had some type of understanding I would work my way up the pay scale and you would raise my wages due to a cost of living increase. Some where along the lines though Uncle Sam you failed me. You wrote books and legislation's on freedom, and democracy, you said give us your hungry and poor and we will clothe and feed them we will welcome you with open arms because we are America and that is our duty and we do it proudly.

Well Uncle Sam I am pissed off because I am American born and bred but I can't pay not a one of my bills because I can't find a job that will hire me with a wage rate that will allow me to keep up with the cost of my expenses and the cost of living in southern California. I own that I have made financial missteps but no worst then the wheffa who runs up her charge card on gucci, and prada. Actually my mistakes don't even amount to anything that huge, but I digress. I have not used the best of judgment at times but to repeatedly deny me work thus not allowing me to better my situation and pull myself up by my bootstraps is that not a blatant mockery of what America stands for? How can I better my situation if I can't get a job paying decent wages due to my current FICA score? I am stuck in the catch 22, I have gotten sucked into this downward spiral and I am stuck at the bottom and I am caught in the drainpipe called despair. What about me have I not be a loyal citizen? Have I not warranted your care, or help? Have you not seen me broken and beaten down by my financial circumstances? What would you have me do? Prostitute my body? Sell drugs? Rob and steal? After I take one of these alternative methods of living into consideration and I happen to get caught by your boys in blue Johnny law and they throw me under the penal system and give me life because I can't afford a high profile lawyer to plead my case what then Uncle Sam?

At this point in my life I just want simple things I want to be able to maintain a well paying job, one that will allow me to pull myself out of the financial bind that has become my resting place, I want to be able to live on my own with having to worry about where my next meal is coming from or if my lights and gas will be turned off. I want to be a productive member of society but I am being penalized because I can't afford to pay my bills and have made some poor financial choices in my life. I am now not a worthy candidate to be hired because according to employers who run a background check and see a poor credit history/score they say it speaks to my trustworthiness and therefore my credit score says that I could be considered untrustworthy around sensitive information, that I am susceptible to bribes, that I may commit fraud using someone else's information etc. In actuality I have never even stole so much as a piece of bubblegum, nor would I ever steal because if I was a thief I wouldn't be poor I would be rich, if I had no integrity I would be a winner because people with no integrity do whatever it takes to make that almighty dollar, they bend the truth, they use "creative" money management, they do whorish things to get ahead in life, suck a little dick, put out porn tapes, write about extramarital affairs, sleep with their bosses to get ahead etc. So what would you advise me to do Uncle Sam if no one will hire me for anything what recourse do I have? I am at the whim of the world I can't even pay my cellphone bill and yes that will go on my credit also, my bank account is also overdrawn and yes that will go on my credit also and the fun just keeps going.

I just want to say thank you for thinking of me when you passed these laws that made it virtually impossible to improve upon my financial situation, thank you for valuing people from other countries better than you value your native sons and daughters. Thank you for not allowing a single black women who has no kids to be eligible for any kind of aid or benefits because you don't consider her destitute enough. If anyone were to ask me where the greatest place in the world is to live I would truly be at a lost for words because right now my life is fucked up and you don't give a shit but yet you say I shouldn't be lazy, and trifling, pushing out babies and putting them on the counties dime. Yet when I don't do that I can't get any financial help so Thank you Uncle Sam for being that uncle that rapes me in the basement and robs me of my dignity repeatedly. I am your least favorite Niece, the forgotten and the destitute yet you want me to believe in you, care about you, work towards a common goal and do my part. Why not just give me my own BET reality show you can call it a "broke black bitch with no whip and no chips" or how about "Shuckin' and jivin' coon time for that prime time dime" or "America's next baby momma with three different baby daddies who all have to go on Maury and none of them are still not the father" I digress. You have to wonder about a country that rewards stupidity, turns a back to everyday american's with real financial needs, but makes instant stars out of women who use there wombs as a revolving door for romper room. If this world isn't fucked up and backwards then I must not having my thinking in order.

Signed your least favorite, never thought of native niece

THE FIRE INSIDE

Comments

Dear God:

I know that many would like to believe that you sent Obama to deliver us from ourselves but...he is one man. He can't single handily change the world and redress all the wrongs that have been heaped upon the heads, backs, and necks of black people. There is no magic marker that can color over the pain of years of oppression, rejection and systematic oppression. I hear people of color now saying since Obama is in the white house we now have no excuses like overnight we have become more than just rappers, basketball players, hoodrats, chicken heads, singers, dancers, and entertainers in the eyes of the world. I know many believe that money changes your color but I'm sorry to burst your bubble you're still a nigger but just with money and NO CLASS!

I know many would like to believe that we have finally reached that mountain top and it is so easy to lay that burden down and believe that finally the last is now first, but Dear God help them to understand that in this society when one turns a blind eye to the past and pretends that it never existed it just becomes a wound that never heals, it simply festers. When a wound festers it stinks, and right now God the wound is funky! Black life still is not counted as precious and is still seen as being expandable, I have three brothers and every night I pray for their safety because I know if a white man with a badge and uniform chooses to snuff out their life he will and it will be deemed necessary force and he will be allowed to walk the streets free while another black mans blood cries out to you from the ground.

I'm tired God, I'm tired of being angry and having to explain why I'm angry, why I'm frustrated, why I'm tired why I just want to hide in my house and pretend that the world doesn't exist sometimes. I get overwhelmed by the appalling lack of knowledge of history and of self that the black youth has, they're too busy supermanning hoes and birdwalking to pick up a book and gain knowledge of self. I won't even start in on the adults my age and beyond who like to turn a blind eye to history. They have the that was then this is now attitude. I was always taught unless you know your past you are doomed to repeat it, but I guess I was the only one taught that. I know that everyone says that we are supposed to hold hands and sing we are the world and we should pretend to be color blind but I'm not color blind never have been, and I probably would have been glad to do that had my history been taught in school had the history of black folks been included in my curriculum thus making even the smallest pretense to include our contributions made in history then I wouldn't feel so jipped like I missed something but I guess we don't talk about that because it's not important at least not by societies standards.

I'm trying to understand God why the culture that black people slapped together, because all ties were severed with Africa when we were brought over here through that middle passage is constantly mimicked, and marketed as flavorful and fresh, but yet we get no recognition for the other contributions we have made in society except on UNICF commercials. Why is it that Puffy and Biggie are the biggest icons in black culture but the only thing they did was make music what else did they do? Why is B.I.G so important? In no way shape or form am I trying to diminish the mans talent but really God...besides rapping WHAT DID HE DO? I could go on and on but I won't because you sit high and you look low, and you already see what is going on and what the world is like. I figured since you are omnipresent and omnipotent then you probably read blogs as well.

Oh and God I know black life is not valued as highly as other races I get that, but apparently others like to pretend that they don't and that's fine, they say ignorance is bliss I guess because I don't live in pretense I am INTENSE but I digress can you please stop the gratuitous snuffing out of black life, please God at the hands of others and ourselves. Black women already out number black men 7 to 10 or some off number but I know the ratio is in favor of men and not in favor of women. Anyway I just thought I would type somethings out for you to read and possibly think about. I appreciate you reading and I hope you read my blog often. If you could see fit also to change some things in my life this year for the better I would really appreciate that. I read and heard that faith moves mountains and all I need is a mustard seed of faith I'm trying everyday honestly!

P.S. Please see that Justice is served in the case of the white police officer who shot a handcuffed unarmed black 22 year old by the name of Oscar Grant in the bart station in Oakland Ca. if justice is not served for that young man...you already know about the fire inside that boils over when enough becomes enough...

In case you didn't read about what's going down in OAKLAND Don't let another black mans blood seep into the ground without giving it a voice.

Well Thanks so much for listening God and until we talk again...

Sincerely 78 MS.J

NOT EASILY BROKEN

Comments

Not Easily Broken'sOFFICIAL SITE

I went to see the movie not easily broken and I must say it was a nice breeze of a different wind. I absolutely loved the movie. We as black women have a tendency to be too strong sometimes. To the point where we emasculate the men in our lives, we can be steamrollers and its just not right nor is it healthy. Everything has a balance if you upset the balance of a thing then it gets overturned and off course. I believe that this society is unbalanced and vastly off course. Whole communities are being eaten away because said community is off balance.

I am a lover and supporter/downer hater of black men. The contradiction because of the things they do and continue to do but at the same time I still see and respond daily to the beauty, wonderfulness and powerfulness that they still possess but they don't believe in enough is still there shining through. Like I told one black man this past weekend I am tired of fighting y'all I just want to lay my sword down and relax in your company and in your embrace. Why do I have to do battle with you when I simply want to love, be in love, and embraced by you?

Why can't we as black men and women come to the table and foster discussion, and heal some of the hurts we have inflicted on each other for far too long? Why can't we see the hurt and damage inflicted on each other as wounds and battle scars not badges of honor and coat of arms. I advise everyone not just couples to go see this movie or pick the book up and read it. It's time to heal the divide not widen it! The future needs it, our communities need it, and WE as a people need it especially! Read more...

WE STILL ON THE GREEN PILL

Comments

So you think because you cut your cellphone off that big brother can't eavesdrop on you, WRONG! Check it out:

The government has had its hands in everything since co-intel-pro we don't really live in a democracy we live in a republic type government, we get enough rope to hang ourselves with and then the government steps in and reigns the people back in. If the government was really ran by the people then there would be no need for the senate nor the house of representatives. The government just keeps extending its reach and taking the little "liberties" it extended to appease the masses. As long as we keep our creature comforts no one is the wiser until it's directly in your backyard but then by that time its too late. The matrix we live in is alive and well! Read more...

DEAR OPRAH, WELCOME BACK ...

Comments

Dear lady O,

First and foremost welcome back to team chunk, while you were gone we missed you. 2ndly since you are the voice for the people please tell them again for the slow witted that dieting while a cute way to drive yourself completely insane never works. It is in fact a slow form of torture just an unhealthy way to over obsess over your body.

Since sense is not common let me share a few tidbits with you as far as nutrition goes, it's the calories you consume, minus your output and when you add into the equation a under active thyroid gland that equals a hard row to hoe. Diets never work unless you plan to eat like that solely for life. With anything in life its about moderation, but since the diet industry is a billion dollar industry no one will listen to reason and the general public would much rather read the labels on boxes, measure all its food, starve yourself, take pills that promise to shrink your waist line, buy ab machines that promise to give you a 9 pack, or buy tapes with perky instructors telling us how high to kick that knee. Meanwhile American's get fatter, the get sadder, and the diet weight loss establishment get's richer. When there is no real solution and just a lot of gimmicks, helped with a healthy dose of shame, and unrealistic aspirations given to the masses you get a yo-yo effect, because if all these diets, pills, exercises, gyms, solutions worked wouldn't we all be a one sized world?

Lady O I applaud your candor at sharing your weight with the world because you didn't have too and I don't think personally its anyone's damn business what dress size you wear. I however would not have went on television and told them a specific number, I simply would have said that I have gained some weight due to the holidays and winter months and appealed to all the other non-beyonce regular women in the world who have done the same and then I would have started January with a new outlook a cute workout wardrobe and a fun way to workout while looking cute.

Also since you are back on team chunk for at least a little while this is your time to tell these designers to get their team chunk design on, stop hating on bigger women. And have no fear if you want to be stylish simply call Monique she can find you a hot couture big girl gown in a minute. She is the queen of pretty plus sized fashion and there are plenty places that cater to plus sized women with elegant affordable dresses not the ugly tents of yesteryear that no one wanted to wear. I know you were living the "skinny" dream and you thought your team chunk days were over but Lady O fear not this does not mean your life is less meaningful nor over it just means there is more again for you to love.

This is also the perfect time to tell the world that in order to truly have a healthy relationship with ones self you have to love the skin your in no matter if it's a size -0 or if its a size 20 and beyond. Stop listening to the negative people, the doomsayers, the so called taste makers and tune into yourself. There will be plenty of people telling you how bad you have done, how ashamed you should be, and giving you all kinds of bad body get skinny quick advice, and please Lady O whatever you do please do not go on the crazy broads who design bad clothes lemonade diet. I can only hope that you might goggle yourself often and that this open letter to you might come up but if not I wrote this with you in mind.

Signed a member of team chuck, who still thinks you look fab even if the world is telling you otherwise.

P.S. It seems like in this society there isn't a balance there are young girls killing themselves to look skeletal the newest craze to hit youtube is called thinspiration videos full of anorexia starved young women who think food is there enemy. Dear Lady O if there was ever a time to try and crusade and save the world it would be now. In case a person comes across this particular blog, the thinspiration craze is unhealthy! Read more...

OBAMA BACKLASH

Comments

I hate to keep bringing this up but...OBAMA BACKLASH is in full effect. Caucasians are buying assault weapons left and right, I suspect KKK enrollment is up, and the threats that are coming in about President Obama are more than any other president has gotten since the white house chief of staff position was invented! I just want people to be aware that racism does not go away, it may mask itself and become politically correct but it doesn't die down. Watch your back people especially in these messed up economic times, desperation breeds dangerous situations and people! Read more...

SNATCHING OFF THE ROSE TINTED GLASSES PART TWO

Comments

I realize that I see the world differently from others and that is my cross to bear, but I am really worried for folks who think that just because President Obama is in office then magically everything racist wise will be wiped out with a big magic wand. It doesn't work that way people. Minorities are going to be targeted more and more because Caucasian people feel as if they are being threatened in some way, shape or fashion. I am not trying to stir up the masses, I am not being paranoid but it's real out here some Caucasians are in a panic and they are making it their business to be prepared ammunition wise case in point my fellow blogger :UNITED STATES OF ANTHONY has an article detailing the rise in gun sales and it's not Jamal and Raheem buying these guns it's Bill and Roger. I keep trying to sound the alarm to make my brotha's and sista's around the world aware of the potential danger you could be in but y'all don't hear me though shrugs.

Just a friendly heads up...you can take the warning and say thanks of wait in blissful ignorance either way don't say I didn't try to warn you. Read more...

SNATCHING THE ROSE TINTED GLASSES OFF

Comments

Yes Obama is in the white house but outside my house the real world still remains the same!

While I think everyone is entitled to their opinion because I certainly hold dear to mines the world is not going to change over night. Matter fact I wouldn't be surprised if the true racist didn't start coming out in droves and lynchings didn't start up again. Yes a mixed man is in the white house but let us not forget this country has a long nasty love affair with racism. We have reached a peak but what is in the valleys below us? The world outside my door didn't just automatically shift into a gentler kinder place because President Obama won. When I open my door I am still in the burbs I still have to act accordingly and I still have to be on my P's and Q's. There are no magic care bears floating on clouds singing songs or harmony, and racial equality, they are not solving the millions of civil rights cold cases that have yet to be solved! The fight is not over and I don't even think I want it to be. You need people to grit your teeth on, it keeps you strong and from forgetting. Know your history people, stop sitting at the very feet of the people who have no regard for you.

I-N-D-E-P-E-N-D-E-N-T DO YOU REALLY KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS?

Comments

There is this movement, a shift in thinking if you will I don't know if it is the evolution of the times but it's a movement none the less, and I for one can't really get behind it. I see I have lost you already let me break it down for you, we have this MS. INDEPENDENT movement going on now. Please don't ever get it twisted women are striving and doing the dog-on-thang (pardon my slang) but at what cost? I think it's great to tell any girl to shoot for your goals achieve your dreams so you can be proud of yourself and have something of your own that is a wonderful message but the whole MS. Independent thou are an island to oneself is not hot.

It's getting to the point where women are saying hey since he doesn't have a degree, since he doesn't make X-amount of money, since he can't take me to France for summer vacation then I'm not fooling with him and etc. I am not saying all women but a great majority of them that are out stepping men financially are saying that. Now I am writing purely from my perspective and my cultural standpoint. A lot of African-American women are shelving marriage because it's just not appealing. Why get married when you can do for self and have no one to answer to. Who needs marriage when your money covers all your needs and then some, who needs marriage when you have dick on dial? Love and Marriage are being kicked aside and Marriage is taking a beating like the most picked on kid in the school yard.

Ms. Independent is murking marriage and some men are cheering for it. We went from gold-diggers to Ms. Independent two ignorant extremes of the same coin. I understand from a mans point of view that a woman having her own takes a huge responsibility off the shoulders of said man but what happens when the women decides that since she is Ms. Independent she doesn't need you anymore? Why would a woman need a man when she can do it all, and buy it all, and be all, all by herself? What is the use of a man besides being the dick dealer in that situation? If you are truly independent then it means you need no one, because you are self dependent, self relying, and self taken care of, being independent does not leave much room for anyone or anything else.

Please don't get me wrong I think its great that women have climbed that mountain top and cracked that glass ceiling and put a huge crack in it but at what cost? While women are out achieving and bringing home the big bucks, families and marriage are taking a back burner to success. Women are putting off having children, and getting married, to pursue other avenues. Love has gotten a black eye, marriage is getting murdered daily, and raising your own child has taken a seat to nannies, and day cares. What I am saying is some don't know how to balance it some are extremist and it's really not a good look.

How is it that gay couples are fighting so hard just to have the right to call their unions a marriage when heterosexuals don't even want to marry each other anymore? How is it that gay couples fight so hard to adopt children when plenty of people having kids shouldn't be having them at all? I must be a martian because to me it makes no sense we are truly living backwards. Our values are completely almost nonexistent, I know I'm uncool for still thinking that marriage, and raising children within a family unit is something beautiful and ideal.

It's funny how everyone has a song talking about being independent and how she got her own thing but the queen of independence got married Mrs. Carter-Knowles. I'm pretty sure in her household her husband is the head and she is the helpmate. I'm also pretty sure that she knows her role and plays it accordingly. I'm also pretty sure that she has watched her parents WHO are still married by the way so I'm pretty sure that Ms. Independent woman never thought that she wouldn't get married. I believe that when you set yourself as independent you give yourself no margin for error you are telling the world I got this I don't need anything from you, and you can't do anything for me. With an attitude like that you are setting yourself up to become an island why would anyone want to be an island of one?

There are women who have achieved great success and still continue to do so but they are married and have families and they prioritize accordingly, money and success still take a back burner to what is really important which is God, Family, and then everything else. For instance Michelle Obama is a successful lawyer, mother, and wife to the future president of the united states that is a prime example of a woman who is managing to balance her life while keeping the important things in perspective, Jada Pinkett-Smith is another woman that does that and as I previously mentioned Mrs. Carter-Knowles does also.

I suspect that these women know that no matter how much money or critical acclaim they achieve success can not hug you nor kiss you, it can't say mommy play with me, it can't replace being held by your husband after a long day, it surely can't massage tired feet. I don't know any kind of toy on the market yet that can replace the touch of a husband that knows your body inside and out, and it can't replace making love to a man that you share the same last name with. I'm not a fool I know that marriage is work, relationships are work they take time, patience, nurturing, communication, and constant care. But while the whole world is singing "she's independent that's why I love her" there are women who are just as successful but taking care of their husbands and children as well.

I know in this current American culture success is measured by your net worth and assets, and everything else is just extra. I must seem positively ancient in my view of things and I probably will have a huge backlash but when you are a martian you expect it. Like I stated earlier I don't care for the ms. independent title sounds like a dressed up way of saying she got money so I can be the dick dealer and not be tied down. Ladies it's great if you got it but if you can't balance that and know that at the end of the day you are not an island all to yourself then all those shopping sprees and overseas trips don't amount to much when you in a huge mansion with nothing but purse dogs to keep you company...ask Mariah!

BACK TO CIVICS CLASS

Comments

A couple of things I want to talk about first and foremost I hope all my readers are doing wonderful, I know in these rough economic times everyone is feeling the hurt, keep your head up they tell me there is a silver lining somewhere and some how especially when you least it expect it!

I hope everyone voted but don't be disappointed if John McCain wins which he might even though Obama has the popular vote see I think a lot of people have forgotten just how cold blooded the government is, and I don't believe that we really live in a Democracy because if we did then our votes would count and there would be no stinking middle man, just the straight voice of the people but no it's not so allow me to take you back to your last year in high school let's remember civics' class shall we.

Elections and the Electoral Process

Federal elections are held in November of even-numbered years. Just as the President, Senators, and Representatives have overlapping constituencies, their terms also overlap.

* All Representatives are elected every two years by the voters of the district they represent.

* Senators serve six-year terms, with one-third of them up for election every even year. Senators are chosen in statewide elections and represent all residents of their states.

* The President and Vice President are elected together every four years in a nationwide election.

The election process begins well in advance of the actual election as individuals declare their candidacies for office. In the congressional election process, if more than one candidate from the same party seeks the office, a primary election is held to determine which candidate will be on the ballot in the general election.

The primary process for presidential elections is different from congressional elections. Beginning in January and lasting through June of the election year, states hold presidential primaries or caucuses. The results of these ballots determine how many delegates will represent each respective candidate at the national party nominating conventions, which are usually held in July or August. These political conventions are where each party's nominee is actually selected.

In the general election in November, Senators and Representatives are elected by plurality vote—the candidate receiving the most votes wins, even if it is not a majority. In presidential elections, each state is allocated a number of electoral votes equal to the sum of U.S. Representatives and Senators for that state. The District of Columbia, though not a state, has three electoral votes.

The presidential candidate who wins the popular vote in a state "wins" that state's electoral votes, usually in a winner-take-all manner. After elections in each state are certified, the electoral votes won by each candidate are counted. If a candidate receives a majority of the electoral votes (at least 270 of the 538 total), he or she is declared the winner. If no candidate wins a majority of electoral votes, the U.S. House of Representatives chooses the winner, with each state delegation having one vote. Because the President is not elected directly by the people, it is possible for a candidate to receive a plurality of the popular vote and yet lose the election.

I don't want anyone's bubble to be burst but...since the house of reps is still all republican...you do the math and match up. That's how Bush got into office he stacked the deck the way he needed it stacked All republican house of reps which elected a republican candidate if I'm wrong someone inform me, let me know. Still team Obama and I already mailed in my vote but...we still live in AmeriKKK so nothing would surprise me.

Now that, that is out the way my heart does go out to J. Hud and her family it was a tragic thing to happen to her and her family. May God grant her peace and comfort through these trying times. Read more...

THE BAMBOOZLEMENT OF BEES; I KNOW WHY THE BEE STINGS

Comments

In watching the secret life of bees my first thoughts where, again black women are the umbrella which shelter white children, again we are the mammy, the tit by which a white child who has no mother has come to nurse. Again a black boy sticks his neck out to go to the movies with a white girl, risk himself being killed just so that he can sit in the colored only section with a white girl practically in his lap, until white men come and drag his ass out of the theater and work him over because he dare even think of being with one of their precious lily white daughters. Come to think of it Dakota Fanning’s character was named Lily. What is a Lily but a pure white beautiful flower, when you think Lily you think pure virginal, clean, beautiful now wonder the black boy in this movie couldn't help himself he was overcome by the very nature of this pure virginal white girl. What black man wouldn't want a pure Lily white unattainable girl, that's the devils nectar forget a black woman. In those times poor black men had to settle for an everyday black woman who didn't have beautiful dresses, couldn't spend the money to get their hair done, or buy heels, use make-up and get fancy undergarments unless they were ladies of ill repute. How could a black mammy compete with a dolled up put on a pedestal white woman? White women were touted as the very epitome of womanhood while black women where work mules, lusty sluts that the master used sexually so he could preserve the very delicate nature of his white woman the very forbidden fruit that all savage black men hungered and hunger after still. Who wants a black woman when you can have a Lily white pure as the driven snow white woman?!?!? I digress…back to my point.

Now I have never read the book and I saw the cast interviews on Oprah (but let me stop right here and say again way to go Opera pimp us black women into thinking this story was about us, because we all know if Oprah puts her stamp of approval on it then it must be right! I must admit you had me fooled Oprah, never again from here on out you're getting the SEOD) so I was fooled into thinking this would be a coming of age story for Lily and these women would of course play a integral role in her development but I thought she was a sideline story not the whole damn story, I didn't know that the story was going to be one of those "poor white trash girl runs away to be taken care of by black women who become her savior" type story. I sat here and watched this movie and I couldn't help but think to myself with all that is going on in the era that is this stories backdrop why in God's name is the whole story about this little white girl. It's always about Lily even after the death of one of the Boatwright sisters. After the movie was over I looked up the author to confirm what I already knew after watching the whole movie. In the beginning of the movie I was under the impression that she was black and that's the way the advertisers where framing this movie but about halfway through the movie I realized that this movie was falsely advertised to get black women in the seats. They know if you tug on a black woman's heartstrings then she will go deep in her pocketbook and pull out her hard earned money to go see a movie, or buy a product. It was never about black people the story is about this little white girl and her need to be loved by somebody. I'm glad I did not see this movie in theaters I would have been upset because ticket prices are expensive and the commercials are misleading. Here I am thinking that the story is largely about the boatwright sisters when really it's about Lily.

Queen Latifah, Jennifer Hudson are asexual mammies for Dakota Fanning’s character, the Zackary character is the lusting black boy who will turn into the lusting black man in love with a white woman, who I’m sure will brave the odds just to be with her when they both get older, are you serious? Am I the only one who was not bamboozled by this movie? I understand the little girl had no mother and she just wanted to be loved but was she not still white? Was she not still better off then Jennifer Hudson’s character that got beat because she wanted to go vote? It’s mighty funny that the black characters got beat on, barked on, put in their place and even one of the characters kills herself all due to this white girl bringing herself and her drama around and they still find it in their hearts to take her in and let her live with them. Queen Latifah’s character even say’s she has been in love before but she loved her freedom more but yet and still she still take in this white waif and loves on her, say what! You mean you don’t want a man of your own, nor a family of your own but your character was willing to spend the majority of her life looking after first this girl’s mother and now her if that is not the jolly fat asexual nurturing mammy type then I don’t know what is!!!! And no one but me has a problem with this?

You mean to tell me that this white little girl can bring all this down upon you and you still have room enough in your heart to let her stay even when her daddy comes to take her back home with him?!?!? Black people's love sure runs deep, we raised other people's children which left no time to raise our own if they weren’t already sold off, we still bending over backwards for white folks so they don't think of us as hostile or offsetting to get to know, we go out of our way to fall in love with them and worship them we strive to emulate them in every way shape and fashion, they are our measuring stick and their standards of beauty we have made our own, we pride ourselves on not being to niggerish, or to black acting, we praise those that have the lightest skin and the straightest hair, the thinnest lips, and the smallest noses. We hurry to jump into someone else's culture and shun our own because the only good thing a black person ever did was keep house, pick cotton, raise white children, and cook southern food that white people love to eat and copy and have restaurants that serve it but a black person doesn’t own.

Why is it we are still so conditioned to love everything we are not, we can't get solidarity in our own culture and race but yet we want to hurry and sing songs, and hold hands, and intermarry with other races. Black people are the only race of people that are so divided and still self hating, we have no real culture in this country just shit we have made up, we have ingenuity but no integrity, we could be a nation built on something beautiful but we too concerned about the latest fashions, the newest cars, the stupidest dances, we have no real leaders anymore, we tear ourselves apart, we tear down our communities, instead of uplifting ourselves some of us rather sit at the right hand of a Caucasian and get a handout. So many are bamboozled still in this day and time that they are actually shocked when they hear about an incident of racism. For God sakes they are still hanging, and dismembering black men in the back roads of Texas towns. The world is not that different it just got more politically correct, meaning racism got a face lift and a press agent. Even Oprah with all of her money still gets discriminated against, Barack even though he is half white is still looked at as all black and he is considered a black man. He is treated as a black man. Even his own grandmother knows the difference, come on people wake up. But I guess we won't wake up until a white person says it's time for us to wake up, so I guess I better just sit patiently and wait for the next great white hope to come and save us. Like they do in all the sports movies, or the movies where the white person comes to the ghetto and educates the ignorant masses turning them around and helping them achieve.

You know it's funny if you ask any foreigner on American soil who is the trespasser every time they will point at a black person and say us. To them we are the unwanted masses, the swept under the rug controlled step-children that are no longer a threat because we have no power; we have no will to change things. WE just want to get a good job, drive a Cadillac truck with a bumping system, and have a house with a Latina, white, or Asian wife at the helm so the children can be mixed and have long "good" hair. The American dream for a black man is just that simple… and for a black woman as long as we have Oprah and white men we’ll be just fine! (Sarcasm) Oh my people…we have got to do better than this y’all are wounding my spirit and making me weep and lament over your plight as if you were dead and decaying rotting flesh, where have our warriors gone?

THE MEANING OF WHITE PRIVILEGE ILLUSTRATED

Comments

Written on a Mingle city forum board by one of the members, my sister sent it to me in a email it was to brilliant not to post because it is true. Anyone who believes that we have overcome all the way is living blindly and in denial and that is a mental handicap!

By Tim Wise

For those who still can’t grasp the concept of white privilege, or who are looking for some easy-to-understand examples of it, perhaps this list will help.

White privilege is when you can get pregnant at seventeen like Bristol Palin and everyone is quick to insist that your life and that of your family is a personal matter, and that no one has a right to judge you or your parents, because “every family has challenges,” even as black and Latino families with similar “challenges” are regularly typified as irresponsible, pathological and arbiters of social decay.

White privilege is when you can call yourself a “fuckin’ redneck,” like Bristol Palin’s boyfriend does, and talk about how if anyone messes with you, you'll “kick their fuckin' ass,” and talk about how you like to “shoot shit” for fun, and still be viewed as a responsible, all-American boy (and a great son-in-law to be) rather than a thug.

White privilege is when you can attend four different colleges in six years like Sarah Palin did (one of which you basically failed out of, then returned to after making up some coursework at a community college), and no one questions your intelligence or commitment to achievement, whereas a person of color who did this would be viewed as unfit for college, and probably someone who only got in in the first place because of affirmative action.

White privilege is when you can claim that being mayor of a town smaller than most medium-sized colleges, and then Governor of a state with about the same number of people as the lower fifth of the island of Manhattan, makes you ready to potentially be president, and people don’t all piss on themselves with laughter, while being a black U.S. Senator, two-term state Senator, and constitutional law scholar, means you’re “untested.”

White privilege is being able to say that you support the words “under God” in the pledge of allegiance because “if it was good enough for the founding fathers, it’s good enough for me,” and not be immediately disqualified from holding office--since, after all, the pledge was written in the late 1800s and the “under God” part wasn’t added until the 1950s--while if you're black and believe in reading accused criminals and terrorists their rights (because the Constitution, which you used to teach at a prestigious law school requires it), you're a dangerous and mushy liberal who isn't fit to safeguard American institutions.

White privilege is being able to be a gun enthusiast and not make people immediately scared of you.

White privilege is being able to have a husband who was a member of an extremist political party that wants your state to secede from the Union, and whose motto is “Alaska first,” and no one questions your patriotism or that of your family, while if you're black and your spouse merely fails to come to a 9/11 memorial so she can be home with her kids on the first day of school, people immediately think she’s being disrespectful.

White privilege is being able to make fun of community organizers and the work they do--like, among other things, fight for the right of women to vote, or for civil rights, or the 8-hour workday, or an end to child labor--and people think you’re being pithy and tough, but if you merely question the experience of a small town mayor and 18-month governor with no foreign policy expertise beyond a class she took in college and the fact that she lives near Russia, you’re somehow being mean, or even sexist.

White privilege is being able to convince white women who don’t even agree with you on any substantive issue to vote for you and your running mate anyway, because all of a sudden your presence on the ticket has inspired confidence in these same white women, and made them give your party a “second look.”

White privilege is being able to fire people who didn’t support your political campaigns and not be accused of abusing your power or being a typical politician who engages in favoritism, while being black and merely knowing some folks from the old-line political machines in Chicago means you must be corrupt.

White privilege is when you can take nearly twenty-four hours to get to a hospital after beginning to leak amniotic fluid, and still be viewed as a great mom whose commitment to her children is unquestionable, and whose "next door neighbor" qualities make her ready to be VP, while if you're a black candidate for president and you let your children be interviewed for a few seconds on TV, you're irresponsibly exploiting them.

White privilege is being able to give a 36-minute speech in which you talk about lipstick and make fun of your opponent, while laying out no substantive policy positions on any issue at all, and still manage to be considered a legitimate candidate, while a black person who gives an hour speech the week before, in which he lays out specific policy proposals on several issues, is still criticized for being too vague about what he would do if elected.

White privilege is being able to attend churches over the years whose pastors say that people who voted for John Kerry or merely criticize George W. Bush are going to hell, and that the U.S. is an explicitly Christian nation and the job of Christians is to bring Christian theological principles into government, and who bring in speakers who say the conflict in the Middle East is God’s punishment on Jews for rejecting Jesus, and everyone can still think you’re just a good church-going Christian, but if you’re black and friends with a black pastor who has noted (as have Colin Powell and the U.S. Department of Defense) that terrorist attacks are often the result of U.S. foreign policy and who talks about the history of racism and its effect on black people, you’re an extremist who probably hates America.

White privilege is not knowing what the Bush Doctrine is when asked by a reporter, and then people get angry at the reporter for asking you such a “trick question,” while being black and merely refusing to give one-word answers to the queries of Bill O’Reilly means you’re dodging the question, or trying to seem overly intellectual and nuanced.

White privilege is being able to go to a prestigious prep school, then to Yale and Harvard Business School (George W. Bush), and still be seen as an "average guy," while being black, going to a prestigious prep school, then Occidental College, then Columbia, and then Harvard Law, makes you "uppity" and a snob who probably looks down on regular folks.

White privilege is being able to graduate near the bottom of your college class (McCain), or graduate with a C average from Yale (W.), and that's OK, and you're still cut out to be president, but if you're black and you graduate near the top of your class from Harvard Law, you can't be trusted to make good decisions in office.

White privilege is being able to dump your first wife after she's disfigured in a car crash so you can take up with a multi-millionaire beauty queen (who you then go on to call the c-word in public) and still be thought of as a man of strong family values, while if you're black and married for nearly 20 years to the same woman, your family is viewed as un-American and your gestures of affection for each other are called "terrorist fist bumps."

White privilege is when you can develop a pain-killer addiction, having obtained your drug of choice illegally like Cindy McCain, go on to beat that addiction, and everyone praises you for being so strong, while being a black guy who smoked pot a few times in college and never became an addict means people will wonder if perhaps you still get high, and even ask whether or not you may have sold drugs at some point.

White privilege is being able to sing a song about bombing Iran and still be viewed as a sober and rational statesman, with the maturity to be president, while being black and suggesting that the U.S. should speak with other nations, even when we have disagreements with them, makes you dangerously naive and immature.

White privilege is being able to say that you hate "gooks" and "will always hate them," and yet, you aren't a racist because, ya know, you were a POW, so you're entitled to your hatred, while being black and noting that black anger about racism is understandable, given the history of your country, makes you a dangerous bigot.

White privilege is being able to claim your experience as a POW has anything at all to do with your fitness for president, while being black and experiencing racism and an absent father is apparently among the "lesser adversities" faced by other politicians, as Sarah Palin explained in her convention speech.

And finally, white privilege is the only thing that could possibly allow someone to become president when he has voted with George W. Bush 90 percent of the time, even as unemployment is skyrocketing, people are losing their homes, inflation is rising, and the U.S. is increasingly isolated from world opinion, just because white voters aren’t sure about that whole “change” thing. Ya know, it’s just too vague and ill-defined, unlike, say, four more years of the same, which is very concrete and certain…

White privilege is, in short, the problem.

Ladies and gentlemen, now is the time to wake up and see just how much racism STILL exists. Has the alarm gone off yet?! Read more...
